Buffalo Bayou Park

Buffalo Bayou Park is a large green space located just west of downtown Houston. It covers 160 acres and stretches from Shepherd Drive to Sabine Street, between Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive. The park is open daily, with lighted areas available from 6 AM to 11 PM.

The park offers many activities for visitors of all ages. People can walk or bike on the trails, enjoy picnicking in beautiful garden areas, and visit attractions like the dog park. There is also a nature play area designed for children, with features like slides, climbing equipment, and water features. Visitors can rent bicycles or kayaks to explore the bayou from different perspectives.

Buffalo Bayou Park has important natural features too. More than 300,000 Mexican free-tailed bats live under the Waugh Drive Bridge and emerge at sunset, creating a spectacular natural show. The park contains native plants and wildlife habitats that make it a great place to observe nature.

Getting to the park is easy since several parking options are available nearby. The Water Works visitor center provides restrooms, information, and food options. Whether you want exercise, nature exploration, or family fun, Buffalo Bayou Park has something for everyone.
