By The Change Lab -- via manual_seed -- Apr 18, 2026
Overview
If you are behind on your electric or water bill, or worried about keeping the lights on this month, Houston has multiple programs designed to help. The federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides one-time or ongoing assistance for qualifying households. The City of Houston and several local nonprofits also offer emergency funds. CenterPoint Energy and Houston Water have customer assistance programs as well. This guide explains each option, who qualifies, and how to start an application before service is interrupted.
